Saturday, September 13th, 2008
What is the NYC Marathon Long Training Run?
Every year, the NYRR Club organizes long training runs for runners who are training for the New York City Marathon. Every Year, the New York Flyers volunteer to be the pace leaders for the groups of runners who participate. This is a 20-Mile run (not a race) in Central Park. It involves 4 loops of different distances with a 2 minute break between each loop. Gatorade and water stops are provided throughout the course. View Full Details of the Long Training Run from the NYRR web site

The Flyers need volunteers to lead the pace groups. This is a fun way to get in your long training run while also providing a valuable service to the running community and the New York Flyers. The Flyers get paid to provide these volunteers and the money raised goes to subsidize our annual awards party

What is the course for the Long Training Run?
The course involves 4 loops in the following order:
One 6-mile loop of Central Park
The lower 5-mile loop
The lower 5-mile loop
One 4 mile loop that cuts across both the 102nd street transverse and the 72nd street transverse

We were all new to this at one time. Several leaders are put in each group and at least one leader is an experienced pace leader.

How much does it cost?
THIS IS FREE for all Pace Leaders. Please do NOT sign up for the Long Training Run through the NYRR.

How fast do I have to run?
You can run whichever pace that suits your training needs from 7 minutes/mile to 11 minutes/mile.

What if I can't run 20 Miles?
No problem. You are most needed in the first two loops (first 11 miles) around Central Park where the group is largest. You can run either 6, 11, 16, or 20 miles.
