New York Flyers

Not just a running club, but a social club!

You’ll find weekly runs around New York City, dedicated training programs, long runs, and opportunities to get to know fellow Flyers outside of running. We also organize volunteer opportunities and encourage you to come out and cheer on your teammates when you aren’t running a race.

The Flyers offer two different training programs throughout the year - SpeedPass and a Marathon Training Program (MTP).

SpeedPass

The NY Flyers’ SpeedPass program to help members of all levels become stronger runners.

There are three SpeedPass seasons per year to help structure your training.

Each Season Includes:

  • One coached workout every Tuesday evening in Central Park
  • Two custom workouts uploaded to your VDOT O2 training calendar
  • Training group environment, camaraderie
  • Email coaching support
  • Dynamic stretching and strength exercises

How it Works

All speed workouts are individualized and geared towards improving your running economy, aerobic power, and endurance; three key components to becoming a stronger runner. To do this effectively each member will have individualized paces for every workout, assigned training groups based on fitness level, and coaches motivating them at practice!

Practices always start at Columbus Circle near Maine Monument on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm. All members receive a practice email on Sunday evening with instructions about the workout and location.

Marathon Training
Program

The New York Flyers’ Marathon Training Program (MTP) led by Head Coach Brian Rosetti of The Run SMART Project is designed to help members prepare for their goal half and full marathons. MTP occurs twice a year (starting in January and July) and typically sells out quickly!

There are three SpeedPass seasons per year to help structure your training.

MTP Training Plans

All participants receive personalized training plans geared towards their goal race. Participants submit an athlete survey so an MTP coach can review their recent training/racing history, goals, etc. before customizing their training.

Training plans are published to each participant’s VDOT O2 calendar, which includes the ability to manage your training via mobile, the web and via a PDF copy of your program. VDOT O2 also syncs with GPS so you can easily manage your prescribed workouts and actual splits. Your MTP coach will help manage your calendar, which will also include recommendations on cross training strength, mobility exercises and nutrition, etc.

Coaching Support

Each participant is assigned a “group coach” to guide them through the training program. Participants receive a coaching invite so their assigned coach can manage their training calendar. Coaches leave comments, feedback and are available by email to help motivate and make adjustments to participants’ training along the way.

Practices

Coached practices occur every Wednesday evening at 7pm starting from Columbus Circle. Practice instructions and location are always emailed on Sunday evening.
