Custom Training

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced runner, looking to improve speed or fitness, we have the perfect training program to support your goals.

In partnership with Head Coach and fellow Flyer Brian Rosetti and the RunSMART Project, we offer two programs: SpeedPass and Marathon Training Plan (MTP). Scroll down for details.

SpeedPass

The NY Flyers’ SpeedPass training program caters to runners of all levels.

This season of SpeedPass will offer two separate formats/options: in-person or fully virtual (choose one). All workouts are uploaded to the VDOT O2 app and are customized based on the individual's current fitness and training background.

Participants of either program will receive coaching support by email. For the virtual plan, Coach Brian will provide in-app feedback as well.

The 2021 Spring Session begins on May 10th/11th and runs through July 4th.

Registration opens on Monday, April 19th at 6am.

Training Focus/Goals:

In-Person Format:

  • Eight coached practices every Tuesday night in Central park with Coach Amy and Tiffany.
  • Two speed workouts added every week to your VDOT O2 training calendar.
  • Coach led mobility & strength exercises to close each practice.
  • Coaching support via email.

All practices will start promptly at 7pm on Tuesday evenings at Maine Monument near the Columbus Circle entrance to Central Park. Coaches will designate two or three training groups depending on demand, which will meet separately for final workout instructions with their assigned coach before warming up.

All participants will be required to wear a mask during practice until further notice. Each coached group will be capped at 20 runners and kept socially distanced from other groups. All speed-work will maintain safe spacing throughout.

Virtual Format:

  • 8-week custom training plan published to your training calendar.
  • Coaching support via email and in-App.
  • Weekly Zoom check-in with Coach Brian (30 minutes).

Participants who sign up for the virtual option will receive a personalized training plan geared towards their season goal(s). The 8-week training plan will starts on Monday May 10th and end Sunday July 4th. Participants will fill out an Athlete Survey so Coach Brian can review their recent training/racing history, goals, etc. before personalizing their plan. All plans will support members' training day preferences and goals.

Training plans will be published to each participant's VDOT O2 calendar, which includes the ability to manage your training via mobile, internet and/or PDF versions of your program. VDOT O2 also syncs with GPS so you can easily manage your prescribed workouts and actual splits.

Marathon Training
Program

Information on the Summer/Fall 2021

session will be updated shortly.

The New York Flyers’ Marathon Training Program (MTP) led by Head Coach Brian Rosetti of The Run SMART Project is designed to help members prepare for their goal half and full marathons.

There are two MTP seasons per year to help you prepare and they typically sell out quickly!

The Summer/Fall 2021 Session begins on July 5th and runs through November 7th.

MTP Training Plans

Coaching Support

Each participant is assigned a “group coach” to guide them through the training program. Participants receive a coaching invite so their assigned coach can manage their training calendar. Coaches leave comments, feedback and are available by email to help motivate and make adjustments to participants’ training along the way.

Practices

Coached practices occur every Wednesday evening at 7pm starting from Columbus Circle. Practice instructions and location are always emailed on Sunday evening.
