The nearest Starbucks is two blocks north - but it will be exceptionally crowded. Don't expect to be able to use it. Description: Preview the Last Ten Miles of the NYC Marathon with the New York Flyers!
This terrific run will follow the marathon course from the Queensboro/59th Street Bridge to the infamous 5th Avenue Hill to the Marathon Finish Line at Tavern on the Green in Central Park. Come join us! Space is limited.
Aid Stations: Water, Gatorade, and gels at around Mile 5.75 (Marcus Garvey Park); fluid and bagels at finish.
Baggage: Drop-off at start location (59th and 1st Avenue); Pick-up at finish (turnaround circle in front of Tavern on the Green in Central Park at West 67th Street). BAGGAGE CHECK IS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND IS OFFERED AS A CONVENIENCE TO RUNNERS. Baggage pick-up will close at 10:45 AM, which gives you plenty of time to finish the run. Please remember to pick-up your bags. Please arrive at the finish by 10:45AM.
Toilets: There are NO toilets at the start. The nearest facilities to the start are a Starbucks two blocks north, but it has one stall and we have 300+ runners. Don't count on using it. There are toilets at the finish at Tavern on the Green. There are toilets in Marcus Garvey Park on the route as well as in Central Park, but pacers will not make stops at these toilets given the relatively short length of the run.
Pace Groups We will send out groups by pace (Run/Walk Group(if available), 11MM, 8:00 to 10:30 minute/mile) a few minutes apart. Each group will have at least one designated pacer.
Route: Please print out the route map and bring directions. Please stay out of bike lane (running in the "zebra strip" area is OK), be careful at intersections (the route is obviously not closed to auto traffic) and be respectful of other users of the sidewalks and the park.
Maps: to be added
Directions: To be added.
Please stay on the sidewalk. Be very careful crossing streets, especially the bigger Manhattan streets like 79th Street, 86th Street, etc, as well as the big streets in the Bronx. Don't run through red lights! Try not to run in the bikers lane - the "zebra stripes" to the right of the bikers lane is OK.
We strongly suggest that you run with money, a metrocard and a phone, plus a copy of the route and directions.
We will need many Pacers and Volunteers to make the run happen- Sign up to PACE Here. Sign up to VOLUNTEER here. If you would like to Pace, but are not a member, you can run for FREE. Contact the board at firstname.lastname@example.org
